HA NOI — Viet Nam's U-19 football team, led by Coach Trieu Quang Ha, will start a one-month training programme at the Ha Noi-based Youth Football Training Centre today in preparation for upcoming international events.
As scheduled, the team will participate in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-19 Football Championship from September 10-20 in Myanmar, playing against teams including Laos, Indonesia and the host country.
After completing the tournament, the team will compete in the U-21 Mekong International Championships.
The qualifying round for the Mekong event, to include Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, China, Cambodia and Viet Nam, will kick off on October 8, the semi-finals on October 14 and the final on October 16.
The winner of the tournament will receive a cash prize of US$20,000, while runners-up will get $15,000 and $10,000, respectively.
The international events will provide the Vietnamese team with a good opportunity in honing their skills before flying back to HCM City's Thanh Long Sports Centre to prepare for the Asian U-19 Football Championship qualifying round, to be held in HCM City from October 31 to November 8. — VNS
